June 2013: BBE was awarded two new design and construct turnkey contracts in June 2011. The first, a cooling project, awarded by Gold Fields for their South Deep gold mine, calls for a 9 MWR bulk air cooling tower using cold water from an existing refrigeration system.

The installation will have a compact footprint designed to fit neatly adjacent to the mine headgear.  The scope of supply is for the complete cooling tower, two axial force fans, spray pumps, return water pumps and both the supply and return pipelines.  This fast-track project, with a value of R20-m will be on stream by December 2011.

The second contract, for four surface fan installations, was awarded by Xstrata Alloys, the world’s largest producer of ferrochrome, for their Eland platinum mine in Limpopo Province.  The turnkey project, also around R20-million, calls for the supply of four twin fan installations, comprising eight 185 kW fans, delivering a total of more than 1 MW of ventilation power, and includes all civil works, structural steelwork, self-closing doors, steel ducting, and electrics.  Two fan stations will be commissioned by the end of 2011, the other two in early 2012.
