TURNKEY REFRIGERATION PROJECT UNDE…

Construction work is underway for our large turnkey refrigeration contract awarded by Impala Platinum to design and build an air cooling system to provide [ultimately] 60 MWR of air cooling at its No 17 Shaft complex in Rustenburg, North West province.

Cold air will be discharged into the main downcast hoisting shaft and, in the longer term, additional ice-cold air into a dedicated downcast ventilation shaft. The installation includes five parallel spray-chamber type bulk air coolers. The machine room, containing, ultimately, four York twin-compressor 15 MWR refrigeration machines and the ice storage dams will all be constructed on the roof of the spray chambers. Civil contractor Civcon moved on site in January 2011, earthworks are complete and civil construction of the five-cell bulk air cooler and the four-cell condenser cooling towers is now well above ground level. Commissioning of the first phase is planned for summer 2012.
