BBE Projects was created in response to increasing client demand for a full-spectrum turnkey contracting service in the field of mine ventilation, refrigeration and cooling. BBE Projects shares premises and a staff pool with BBE Consulting, although several staff members are dedicated to the BBE Projects team, comprising of mechanical, electrical, civil, process and project engineers with experience gained in the world’s deepest mines and supported by draughting, finance and administration personnel. BBE Projects has worked with local and international mines and mining groups for many different commodities.
BBE Projects focuses specifically on delivering complete and ready-to-operate systems to mining sector clients. The company is structured to deliver turnkey projects incorporating design, supply, construction, commissioning and process performance guarantee of complete surface and underground ventilation, refrigeration and cooling systems. Particular areas of expertise include refrigeration and air cooling stations, energy saving schemes, thermal storage installations, main fan control and monitoring systems. All manner of projects are undertaken from greenfield sites to plant extensions and upgrades. Being totally independent BBE Projects is able to offer the optimal solution using the best combination of selected equipment.
When BBE Projects takes overall responsibility for the entire process — from concept through detailed engineering and construction to commissioning — clients benefit from a focused project management team, improved project efficiency and streamlined project delivery. The client still enjoys overall authority but without the burden of the micro-management. The client’s standards and specifications still apply as do the appropriate QA/QC and SHE requirements. Designs, layouts and vendor selection are subject to client approval, but the co-ordination of equipment procurement, drawing office supervision, interface details, and contractual boundary issues are then our responsibility as the turn-key company. More importantly, the client’s exposure to design and construction risk moves to BBE Projects.
BBE Projects has all the required engineering expertise under one roof and its team has an established track record of successful turnkey projects, both locally and on the African continent. These projects include refrigeration systems, air-cooling installations (several 20 to 30 MW installations on gold and platinum mines in South Africa and Ghana), ice thermal storage systems (1 000 ice-tons per day on gold mines) and main fan energy-saving projects (guide-vane automation throughout the South African gold and platinum mines).
One of the company’s most recent initiatives is to pursue and construct Eskom-funded DSM [Demand-Side Management] projects and other energy saving schemes developed for the mining industry which focus on optimising the time and use of ventilation, refrigeration and cooling systems. With BBE Projects the client enjoys maximum benefit for minimum input.
